ENGINEERING: THE ESSENCE OF LIFE

Engineering is an art of employing the knowledge of mathematics and applied sciences, primarily to the implementation & extension of existing technology for the welfare of the humanity. The origin of engineering goes back to the very beginning of human civilization. Engineering technology can be described as simply the technology that is an extension of human actions. For eg: bicycle, scooters, trains are all merely an extension of walking and running. In the similar fashion, an aeroplane is an extension of the ability of birds to fly which is transferred to human beings. And the applications of talking , hearing and seeing is converted into telephone, radio, and television. Looking around us, we'll see that technology is prevalent everywhere. From the house where we dwell, to the food we eat, to the clothes we wear, everything uses technology. There is hardly anything left that is not created using technology. This process of implementing technology is termed as engineering and its implementers are known as engineers.

So, to practice engineering at the undergraduate level, one needs to enroll in an engineering college and after four years of rigorous study, one is entitled to a Bachelor of Technology degree, well known as B Tech . B Tech degree is awarded in many fields viz; civil, computer science, mechanical, aeronautical, IT, chemical, electrical & electronics etc. Some institutes confer the B.E. (Bachelor of Engineering) degree instead of B Tech, but in both courses, emphasis is on the study of engineering as their core subject. Owing to a huge demand of engineering as a profession, India has got numerous engineering colleges. Today, B Tech course is much preferred than any other undergraduate course, due to the booming development in the technology sector. But nothing worth fighting for in life comes easy. So is B Tech. Since hordes of B Tech aspirants apply every year for coveted engineering entrance examinations in India 2012.

Hence, it becomes a tough fight to win for these potential engineers, as the top engineering colleges in India are allotted to students on the basis of their ranking in these well acclaimed engineering entrance exams in India. For these toilsome engineering entrance exams, India has become a hub for engineering coaching classes, promising students for a sure seat in engineering college. These engineering coaching classes itself reflects the biased choice of students and parents alike, towards engineering. And engineering profession sure lives up to its expectations, as the B Tech placements in India are the best among other undergraduate courses, thus , making it worth the effort for students and their families.

But what about the students, who want to go for higher education after possessing B Tech degree. Sure, they have umpteen options at their disposal, but who want to add value to their education, M Tech is the sole solution for them. Since doing masters in the same domain, where you did your graduation, will give you more insight into the subject this time along with added exposure. So, M Tech degree after B Tech will certainly add wings to your impending career. M Tech (Master of Technology) is an postgraduate degree that is conferred on a student on completing a 2 year degree course. M Tech course too is included in most of the engineering colleges in India and a student has to go through tough entrance examinations for M Tech admissions as in case of B Tech. Once, a student completes his/her M Tech course, he is ready to enter the industry, only this time, the package will be better with a better profile. Isn't it, what everybody yearns for?

But other than one's desires, the decision to pursue higher education also depends on one's personal and financial constraints. Every one knows their situation better than others. If incase, a student is prevented from continuing his/her higher studies for one or the other reason, then it's best to opt for a job after B Tech. Or he/she can go for higher studies after gaining few years of industry exposure. In either way choice is entirely yours. So, be prepared to embark upon a career in technology.
